Hesketh Henry is involved in sponsorships and pro-bono activities for various community based organisations, as well as supporting charitable organisations such as the Auckland City Mission, Lifewise, TYLA, Medicine Mondiale, the Auckland Philarmonia Foundation and Ronald McDonald House. Auckland Art Fair We are a major partner to the Auckland Art Fair, which has quickly gained an excellent reputation for the quality of the art and the wide array of New Zealand and Australian art galleries and artists represented. Held every two years, it has already become renowned for creating a showcase of the finest contemporary art in the Antipodes. Auckland Art Fair Director, Jennifer Buckley adds “We consider our relationship with Hesketh Henry to be a real partnership – one that’s been of huge benefit not just to our event, but to the art community as a whole”. NZ Sculpture OnShore in association with Friends of Women's Refuges We are a Platinum Sponsor of this event which is the largest outdoor sculpture exhibition in New Zealand. It is held bi-annually at the Fort Takapuna Historic Reserve in Devonport. So far, this event has raised over $1.5 million dollars for New Zealand Women’s Refuges since the first exhibition over a decade ago. The 2010 event raised $70,000 for Women's Refuges. The 2012 event will take place at Fort Takapuna Historic Reserve 8-18th November 2012. “The board wishes to thank Hesketh Henry and its other generous sponsors and supporters, the inspirational artists who invest considerably in the iconic event, and all the dedicated and passionate volunteers that gave tirelessly and enthusiastically to make NZ Sculpture OnShore a magnificent event for all Aucklander’s”, said Chair of NZ Sculpture OnShore Ltd, Sue Harvey. BBC World Service Hesketh Henry continues to be one of the foundation sponsors of the BBC World Service in New Zealand. McCahon French Bay House Restoration and Residency Project We have had a long standing supportive relationship with this project, which has focused on the restoration of a cottage that was once home to Colin McCahon, one of New Zealand’s most significant artists. Also, a new artist’s home has been built adjacent to the original dwelling which is used as an artist’s retreat in which successful applicants spend three months developing their work in an idyllic environment. Lifewise We are proud to support LIFEWISE, which is an Auckland-based community organisation dedicated to initiating new ways to solve challenging social issues and providing services to families in need, the homeless as well as older and disabled people. "Hesketh Henry has been supporting us for over 4 years now. Each Christmas the team at Hesketh Henry works together to collect food and toys which we then distribute to children and families. For some, Christmas can be a very stress filled time of year and Hesketh Henry's compassion and support helps to spread Christmas joy to those who would struggle with the bare essentials. We are truly grateful for the efforts of the entire team at Hesketh Henry", said Lesley Mynett-Johnson, Development Manager, LIFEWISE. The TYLA Trust Hesketh Henry has for many years provided pro-bono legal services to The TYLA Trust which was established in 1996 to identify and provide world class early intervention programmes for "at risk" youth. Originally established in Avondale, West Auckland, TYLA has now set up additional programmes in Otara, South Auckland. It works in conjunction with the Government, the local community, New Zealand Police and other partners, all having a common vision to reduce the number of young offenders in New Zealand. Medicine Mondiale Hesketh Henry provides pro bono advice to Medicine Mondiale, an independent development agency focused on improving life for the world’s poor by developing healthcare products and medical technologies which have applications in both developing and developed world markets. Sir Ray Avery is the founder of Medicine Mondiale and is dedicated to using science and technology to make quality healthcare accessible to all. Hesketh Henry’s work to date for Medicine Mondiale has focussed on helping to devise an efficient and legally robust structure for Medicine Mondiale to receive donations, develop and commercialise projects, minimise administration and concentrate on undertaking its vitally important work. The Hesketh Henry team assisting Medicine Mondiale includes Sarah Kerr, Mathew Bishop and Sarah Gibbs of Hesketh Henry's Corporate and Commercial team, with input from Mary Joy Simpson of the firm's Private Client team. Auckland Philharmonia Foundation Hesketh Henry has a longstanding relationship with the Auckland Philharmonia Foundation, a charitable trust established in 1987 which owns the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra's rehearsal space in Mt Eden and has built up an investment fund in excess of $2 million. The Foundation acts to strategically grow its investment fund, periodically distributing amounts to the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra for initiatives such as player scholarships, upgrades to rehearsal facilities and assisting with the Orchestra's comprehensive education programme. For over 10 years, Hesketh Henry has been represented on the Board of the Foundation by one of its partners (currently Sarah Kerr and before her, former Hesketh Henry partner Tony Sandlant). Hesketh Henry has provided pro bono legal advice to the Foundation and has assisted in other ways, including by supporting fundraising initiatives such as the Orchestra's annual summer concert held at Old Government House. Miomo Charitable Trust We are proud to provide legal knowledge and support to Miomo Charitable Trust. Miomo is a charity that equips young adults to take full responsibility for themselves and to live independently of their families. The organisation is backed by a number of talented people with a passion to equip the next generation for life, including creator and principal mentor Yvonne Godfrey. |
