| March 2007
Erich Bachmann Managing Partner Hesketh Henry. On 12 March 2007, Erich Bachmann will assume office as Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany in Auckland, following his predecessor Rex Brown. Mr. Bachmann is President of the New Zealand-German Business Association and Managing Partner of the legal firm Hesketh Henry. Specializing in commercial law, he has focussed his portfolio on mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, joint ventures and foreign investment in New Zealand. In his role as Honorary Consul, Mr. Bachmann will also be performing a range of duties as a notary public:

"The Honorary Consul is empowered to confirm a passport and/or visa applicant’s identity, verify his/her signature and confirm the true representation of the applicant on the passport photos presented (in this case, an additional fee applies on top of the passport/visa fee).
Hemay also certify signatures and documents (i.e. copies). Certifications by the Honorary Consul are particularly important if documents need to be submitted to a German office (i.e. a Registry Office or Court). In these circumstances, a certification by a New Zealand notary public may be insufficient.
TheHonorary Consul is not empowered to issue passports and/or visa. Furthermore, passport and/or visa applications are not assessed or checked by the Honorary Consul, rather it is the applicant’s responsibility to check the documents for accuracy and completeness before sending them to the Embassy. Please note that the Embassy in Wellington will continue to handle issues of citizenship and civic status and related matters.
"

Mr. Bachmann will take up his role as Honorary Consul on 12 March 2007 from the premises of Hesketh Henry at Level 11, 41 Shortland Street in Auckland. Office hours will be Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
