Murray was admitted to the New Zealand Bar in 1968. His principal areas of practice are commercial property law (with specialisation in perpetual ground leases), commercial property developments, leases and all aspects of trust law.
Murray acts for the St John's College Trust Board, The Melanesian Mission Trust Board, Trust Investments Management Limited and other entities related to the Anglican Church with large scale commercial property development interests. Murray advises on commercial property investments, leases and trusts.
Murray is a member of the Auckland Grammar School Old Boys' Association.
He is a former member of the Association's Executive Committee. He is a present convenor of the Property Disputes Sub-Committee of the Auckland District Law Society. He has served as a costs reviser for the Society's Cost Revision Committee.
