Brett is the senior partner in the Litigation and
Dispute Resolution Team. He has been a partner since 1989,
practising civil litigation dealing with corporate and
commercial disputes for over 25 years.
His focus is complex and often high value litigation arising
from corporate, commercial, property and transactional work. The
wide range of his experience has enabled Brett to develop niche
interests and capabilities, particularly in insurance,
intellectual property and competition law.
Exposure to many of the circumstances and areas of practice
which commonly give rise to professional negligence cases has
led to a significant insurance component in his practice,
particularly professional indemnity work (acting for insurers,
brokers and insured parties, both as claimants and defendants).
Brett’s practice is primarily conducted in the High Court, but
he appears regularly at all Court levels. He is also admitted,
and has appeared, in the Cook Islands High Court and Court of
Appeal. Brett is a strong advocate for mediation/alternative
dispute resolution options where appropriate and beneficial to
his clients’ interest.
