Auckland - Hamburg Strategic Alliance

In 2007, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Auckland City Council and the city of Hamburg. It is aimed to encourage best practice learning and to support opportunities for growth in key sectors, particularly in the areas of creative industries, biotechnology and education.

The Hamburg Animation Award is a prestigious international film competition for young, up and coming animators and is promoted annually by Auckland City Council as part of the strategic alliance between the two cities.

As part of the New Zealand leg of these awards, entries from New Zealand are also judged at a local level and the best entries are honoured with a series of awards including Best Entry and Runner-Up.

The two key awards were presented this year by the Mayor of Auckland, the Honourable John Banks QSO and Hesketh Henry Managing Partner, Erich Bachmann, who is also the Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany in Auckland.

The ceremony was held at the Auckland City Council chambers in the Town Hall on July 2010.
