Alice joined Hesketh Henry in June 2016, having graduated from the University of Otago with a LLB(Hons), BA in Politics and a Diploma in French language. She was admitted to the bar in May 2017.
Alice began as a law graduate in our Private Wealth Team, before moving to our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team in September 2018.
While in the Private Wealth Team she worked closely with Mary Joy Simpson advising on complex trust structures, preparing contracting out and separation agreements, drafting wills and enduring powers of attorney and assisting with obtaining probate and the administration of estates. This knowledge has provided a useful foundation for her work in our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team, including work with Nicola Penman-Chambers on contentious relationship property, trust, and estate matters as well as applications under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988.
In addition, Alice has experience across a variety of insurance, construction and trade and transport matters. She has acted for insurers across a range of claims, including subrogated recovery matters, defending claims against insureds and litigation arising from the Canterbury earthquake sequence. In 2019 Alice acted for an insurer in relation to two sets of proceedings which had a 6 week hearing in the High Court in Christchurch. She also assists parties with disputes arising from construction contracts, including providing advice on the contract and adjudication claims under the Construction Contracts Act 2002.
Alice is also a member of the Trade and Transport Sector Group led by Simon Cartwright. She has appeared in the District Court and the High Court.
She is a member of the Society of Construction Law, Young Insurance Professionals and Young Professionals in Yachting New Zealand.
