James graduated from the University of Auckland with qualifications in BA/LLB, MA (Hons), LLM (Hons). James is admitted to practice in both New Zealand and Australia (New South Wales).
Before joining Hesketh Henry, James worked as a lawyer at the New Zealand’s Financial Markets Authority (FMA), where his role included advising on the development and implementation of new financial markets (securities) law, assessing applications for licences, advising on the use of regulatory powers and engaging with market participants, including financial advisers, brokers, licence applicants and issuers. Prior to the FMA, James worked for a boutique law firm in Auckland and lectured at the College of Law Australia and New Zealand.
James is also currently the Director of Programmes at the College of Law (Asia) responsible for the academic oversight of the full range of programmes provided by the College in Asia. James is a Council Member of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) and is the Chair of the IPBA’s Legal Development and Training Committee. He is also a trustee of the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation and a member of the LAWASIA Moot Secretariat.
James is a fluent speaker of English and Korean.
