The Select Committee report on the Employment Relations Act Amendment Bill 2025 was released on Monday.
Important recommendations include:
- amending the “specified contractor” exception to the meaning of employee so that it applies to more agreements and working arrangements; and
- changing the bar to raising a personal grievance or legal proceedings in respect of a dismissal from a $180,000 wages or salary threshold to a $200,000 annual remuneration threshold, which includes all remuneration the employer has paid to the employee, PAYE income payments and any benefit arising from an employee share scheme.
Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety Brooke van Velden seeks to progress the Bill in early 2026. Will there be more to follow in the new year? Stay tuned.
