We are incredibly proud to share some exciting news from within our team.
Claudia Ropati has recently had her dissertation published in the 2025 Auckland University Law Review, which is a huge achievement in itself. The piece is titled The Confessions of a Cellmate: The Case for Reform of New Zealand’s Treatment of Incentivised Prisoner Testimonies, and it tackles a problematic area in New Zealand’s criminal justice system.
In her work, she takes a close look at how prison informant (or “jailhouse”) testimony is currently used as evidence, the problematic nature of its use and the inadequacy of the current safeguards to protect defendants. She also proposes several reforms, aimed at strengthening safeguards and improving confidence in the justice process overall.
Being published in the Auckland University Law Review is no small feat. It’s one of the country’s leading legal journals, and only a small number of pieces are selected each year.
Please join us in congratulating our colleague on this outstanding milestone. Congratulation on an exceptional achievement, we are super proud!
