On 28 May, Hesketh Henry hosted the opening of the Honorary Consulate of the Sultanate of Oman in New Zealand – marking an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries.
The establishment of the Honorary Consulate reflects a shared commitment between New Zealand and Oman to deepen connections across people, business and institutions. It also provided an opportunity to formally recognise the appointment of Simon Cartwright as Honorary Consul of the Sultanate of Oman in New Zealand.
The event brought together diplomatic representatives and local leaders, and featured remarks from distinguished guests:
- Counsellor Aisha Al Tobi, Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Canberra, spoke about the strong parallels between Oman and New Zealand. She noted that while both countries are relatively small, they make an outsized global impact, underpinned by their roles as trading nations and their reputations for stability and diplomatic neutrality.
- Sir Peter Gluckman shared reflections on his longstanding engagement with Oman, highlighting opportunities for continued collaboration, particularly across science and innovation.
Our Managing Partner Nick Gillies also spoke to the significance of the occasion, highlighting the opportunity to build lasting relationships and create new avenues for collaboration, and reflecting on Hesketh Henry’s experience supporting international connections and cross-border engagement.
Hesketh Henry was pleased to host this milestone event and for our office to be named the official Honorary Consulate for the Sultanate of Oman in New Zealand. We look forward to supporting the continued development of the relationship between New Zealand and Oman.
