Hesketh Henry News Update

Isaac McHardie and William McKenzie head into tomorrow’s Medal Race in third place overall in the 49er class at 2024 Olympics

Having led the competition for the first two days of racing, the team had a tough day three in windy conditions, slipping back to third overall.  However, they showed remarkable resilience, rebounding to post a further win in race 10 today.  Races 11 and 12 were dominated by strategic positioning between the top three boats of NZL, ESP, and IRL, which went for and then against NZL.

The top three standings after the 12 full fleet races are as follows:

  1. Spain – 68 points
  2. Ireland – 73 points
  3. New Zealand – 76 points

The top ten boats (in a 20 boat fleet) go into tomorrow’s medal races.  Previous scores are carried forward and the medal race counts for double points.  So, while Isaac and William have plenty of work to do, it is all still to play for to determine the final placings.

We are proud of how well Isaac and William had done already in representing New Zealand, and we wish them all the very best as they vie for a podium finish.

We invite the wider Hesketh Henry community to share our support for these athletes as they strive for Olympic success.
