Dubbed the ‘McKiwis’, Isaac McHardie and William McKenzie secured Bronze at the recent European 49er Championship in Vilamoura, Portugal. Being the highest placed New Zealand crew, they also took an important step towards earning the nomination to represent New Zealand at the Paris Olympics next year.
The duo remained in the hunt for a medal finish throughout the regatta, which attracted the World’s best 49er crews, and came within a whisker of winning it. The result speaks to their dedication and skill, with them having now finished in the top five in each of the major European regattas this season, including the Olympic test event in July.
