Emily Black is a Senior Associate in the Private Wealth Team at Hesketh Henry. She specialises in advising individuals, families, and trustees on all aspects of private client law, including estate and succession planning, trust establishment and administration, and relationship property matters.

Her expertise includes the preparation of contracting-out agreements and providing independent legal advice in both amicable and complex personal relationship contexts. She is also highly experienced in drafting wills, enduring powers of attorney, and assisting with cross-border estate administration, particularly where New Zealand assets are involved and the will-maker is based offshore.

Emily regularly advises clients on trust, estate, and relationship property disputes. She supports executors, beneficiaries, and trustees in navigating legal claims, and provides clear, independent advice in conflict situations.

Her dispute resolution work includes Family Protection Act claims and contested trust matters. Known for her pragmatic and empathetic approach, she helps clients make confident, informed decisions in both their wealth planning and during times of dispute.

Emily is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and holds the TEP designation. She is also a member of the New Zealand Estate and Taxation Planning Council.
