Profile
Robert is a partner in our Property team and has 25 years commercial and property experience. He provides expert property and commercial advice to a wide variety of clients.

Robert uses his extensive knowledge and experience to assist clients in all aspects of their commercial and property activities.

Robert is regularly advising on complex business and property issues, including the acquisition and disposal of property, leasing and disputes.

Robert maintains an interest in insolvency and restructuring, acting for a number of liquidators, receivers and administrators on a range of matters, including on a number of high profile and complex cases, particularly in relation to property securities and realisation.

Robert is joint team leader of the property team and is a director of the firm’s trustee companies.  

Robert achieved a double degree of Law and Arts from the University of Canterbury.

Robert is individually recommended in The Legal500 Asia Pacific Directory.

Experience

Examples of work completed by Robert include:

Leasing – Negotiating and drafting agreements and deeds of lease (including complex ground leases) and all supplemental issues such as lease renewals, rent reviews, variations, and surrenders for clients with substantial property portfolios’ including St Johns’ College Trust Board, the Melanesian Mission Trust Board, Trust Investments Management Limited and other entities related to the Anglican Church and the Methodist Church, for property syndicates and high net worth individuals.  Recent examples include;

  • Acquisition, redevelopment and leasing of a large brown field site in east Auckland;
  • Expansion and releasing of the largest distribution centre in the South Island; and
  • Redevelopment and leasing of a large retirement village in Auckland

General Property – Acquisition and disposal of client owned properties and advice on property management issues and property disputes for the extensive holdings of the Anglican Church and related entities.

Due Diligence – advising and assisting clients prepare for and undertake due diligence investigations for the acquisition and disposal of property. 

Property Development – Lead advisor to Kahawai Point Developments Limited on an 800 lot sub-division development, including being responsible for all property matters including acquisition of land, re-zoning and resource consent, construction contracts, financing arrangements, subdivision and on-sale contracts, and the management of any disputes that arise.
