Our Owl is revealed

We are very excited to give you a glimpse of our completed owl

We are very excited to give you a glimpse of our completed owl (To the Land Where the Ponga Tree Grows or “Tabitha”, as named by our artists daughter) as she hits the streets of Auckland as part of the free public art trial featuring 47 giant owls.  Each owl has been turned into a bespoke piece of art by a Kiwi or International artist, with works by Dick Frizzell, Jeff Thomson, Greer Clayton, Flox, Weilun Ha, Peata Larkings, Grace Wright, Jessica Pearless, Tabitha’s artist Juliet Best and more.  Joining the giant owls are 60 owlets (90cm) – many of these designed by Auckland school students.

From Saturday 3rd March, 2018, the owls will be displayed for nine weeks in public spaces, parks, malls and libraries across Auckland.  At the end of the trail the owls will be auctioned to fundraise for Child Cancer Foundation.

You can find them all using the trail map with the Big Hoot 2018 app – available to download from the App store or Google Play from 3rd March, and collect rewards as you go.  By visiting the Hesketh Henry owl through the app you have the chance to go into the draw to win a limited edition art print “By the Light of the Moon II” by Juliet Best.  Hard copy maps are available from selected locations including Hesketh Henry’s reception area – visit www.thebighoot.co.nz for more information.

In June 2017 Hesketh Henry ran an in-house children’s colouring competition, where the children had to colour in “Big Hoot”.  The winner of this took home a mini owl or “owlet” for their school to decorate.  Pip Lee from Point Chevalier School took out the first prize with Point Chevalier School being the lucky recipients of the owlet.  The completed owlet, Ruru will land at Westfield St Lukes (near the Kathmandu store).

Hesketh Henry is very proud to be supporting the Child Cancer Foundation by becoming an Owl sponsor for “The Haier Big Hoot”.  If you would like to donate to this amazing organisation please go to the Hesketh Henry “gives a Hoot!” givealitte page.
