The HH team donned the aprons again and helped to mix up a special Matariki Feast for the families at the Ronald McDonald House last night. The menu by the fabulous in-house chef, Heath, touched on four of the nine Matariki stars: Tipuānuku (determines the bounty of foods such as kūmara), Tipuārangi (linked to birds and other elevated foods such as fruits and berries from trees), Waitī (associated with all freshwater bodies and the food sources that are sustained by those waters), and Waitā (associated with the ocean and all life within this domain). It was such a fun and worthwhile experience, especially seeing the joy and gratitude that flowed from all of the families.
RMHC New Zealand supports families when their child is in a New Zealand hospital away from home. This helps to relieve stresses like paying for a place to sleep near the hospital and organising family meals, such as our delicious Matariki Feast.
